Since 2013, ACO has provided medical outreach, donated medications, and local hospital collaboration across Senegal.

ACO establishes accessible medical outreach clinics in villages across Senegal.

During each medical mission, Africa Cries Out works directly with underserved communities to provide accessible healthcare services by establishing medical outreach clinics in villages across Senegal. Patients receive medical consultations from volunteer healthcare professionals across a variety of medical specialties, who provide appropriate treatment and/or medications based on each patient's individual needs.

Medication through donation

Surgical collaboration

Partnerships with local hospitals extend specialized, surgical, and maternal care — with continuity throughout the year.

ACO’s care extends beyond its medical outreach clinics through close partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare providers. Patients who need specialized, hospital-based, or surgical care are connected with local partners for continued treatment. These partnerships allow ACO to provide continuity of care throughout the year — including maternal and surgical services — and support the delivery of more than 15 babies each month.

How It Works

Clinical Flow

Intake records each patient, vitals and triage determine the right level of care, and final handoffs provide treatment, medication, and clear next steps.

Surgical Collaboration

Surgical Mission Care Pathway

Working hand in hand with local hospital teams, ACO’s surgeons carry each patient from identification months ahead, through evaluation and surgery, to follow-up after the team leaves — so surgical care is safe, appropriate, and continuous.

01Months Before
Mission

Identification & Screening

Potential surgical patients are identified months ahead through pre-mission screening by local surgeon partners, prior outreach missions, and referrals from local physicians, hospitals, and community partners.

02Saturday Before
Mission

Evaluation & Final Selection

Visiting surgeons and anesthesiologists evaluate every candidate, then jointly set a safe, equitable schedule. When candidates exceed capacity, priority follows surgical indication, urgency, and socioeconomic need.

03Mission
Week

Surgery & Postoperative Care

Surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and local clinicians work together — often about 12 hours a day — providing as many medically appropriate procedures as possible while safeguarding safety, quality, and recovery.

04After
Mission

Follow-Up Through the Local Team

Care continues with the partner hospital’s medical and surgical team, with the mission surgeons reachable for significant concerns — continuity of care well beyond the mission week.
