When I walked to the dining hall entrance this morning, I froze.<\/p>\n

I had assumed that at daybreak, people would still be slowly waking up.
\nBut under the canopy at the door, the seats were already filled with villagers waiting to see a doctor.<\/p>\n

Rows of plastic chairs held people dressed in colorful robes and headscarves \u2014 rose red, bright yellow, deep blue, orange \u2014 spread out in the morning light like pieces of cloth worn and wrinkled by life, yet still vibrant.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Some waited quietly with their heads down.
\nSome whispered softly to one another.
\nSome held children in their arms.
\nSome simply sat there, with a hint of exhaustion in their eyes \u2014 and also a hint of hope.<\/p>\n

When they saw me, they smiled \u2014 wide, bright smiles showing their white teeth.<\/p>\n

Someone greeted me in Wolof: \u201cSalaam aleekum\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 Peace be upon you.<\/em>
\nI replied, \u201cMaalekum salaam\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 And peace be upon you as well.<\/em>
\nIt\u2019s the only local phrase I know, and my poor pronunciation often makes them laugh.<\/p>\n

In that moment, something gently struck my heart.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

This small doorway reminded me of the \u201cnarrow gate.\u201d<\/p>\n

We often think we<\/strong> are the ones \u201cgoing out to help others.\u201d
\nBut many times, when you actually stand on the ground, you realize:
\nIt is not that we bring love to them \u2014
\nIt is their genuine need that brings us back to the essence of love.<\/p>\n

They arrived earlier than we did.
\nBefore we had even gathered ourselves for the day, they were already sitting here \u2014 bringing with them their physical pain, the hardships of life, and the hope that \u201cmaybe today will be a little better.\u201d<\/p>\n

And suddenly, the meaning of the day became clear.<\/p>\n

A medical mission is never just about diagnosing, prescribing, taking blood pressure, writing notes, or performing surgeries.
\nIt is a response<\/strong> \u2014<\/p>\n

A response to unspoken sighs,
\nA response to needs long overlooked,
\nA response to the real, tangible lives God places before us.<\/p>\n

Sometimes I wonder:
\nWhen our Lord walked on earth, seeing the crowds pressing around Him, waiting for Him, reaching out to touch His garment, or being lowered from a roof for healing \u2014
\nDid His heart soften the same way?<\/p>\n

Because true compassion is never charity from above.
\nIt is seeing.
\nIt is stopping.
\nIt is being willing to give yourself to another\u2019s need.<\/p>\n

The people sitting at the door today reminded me again:
\nThe deepest poverty in this world is often not the lack of medicine \u2014
\nbut the lack of being truly seen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\n

The Surgical & Anesthesia Team<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The surgical and anesthesia team of eight left early in the morning to screen patients at a local Dakar hospital.
\nNone of them had lunch.
\nTo ensure surgeries could begin promptly on Monday, the doctors sat on the floor in a cramped, sweltering room, sorting and preparing surgical instruments for sterilization.
\nBy the time they returned to base, it was past 8 p.m. \u2014 exhausted and hungry.<\/p>\n

May what the \u975e\u6d32\u54ed\u6ce3<\/em> team offers today be more than pills and instructions \u2014
\nmay it also be patience, respect, and gentleness.<\/p>\n

May every person sitting here know, even as they wait:
\nThey are not forgotten.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They arrived earlier than the morning light.
\nMay we bring love earlier than the rising sun.<\/p>\n

A Story Shared by a Brother<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A few days ago, a brother shared why he brought his wife and daughter to Senegal.
\nThey had many choices \u2014 many places with better living conditions.
\nWhy come here?<\/p>\n

He told a story from his own life.<\/p>\n

After the May 12, 2008 Sichuan earthquake<\/strong>, he joined a medical relief team in Wenchuan. Their task was to deliver supplies to villages that had not yet received any aid.<\/p>\n

At first, villagers welcomed them warmly.
\nBut when they learned the team was Christian, they immediately asked them to leave.<\/p>\n

Confused, they asked a local villager why.
\nThey learned that on May 13<\/strong>, the day after the earthquake, some Christians had come \u2014 but they brought only Bibles and gospel tracts, nothing that addressed the villagers\u2019 urgent needs.<\/p>\n

This deeply impacted him.<\/p>\n

On one hand, he admired those believers who rushed into the disaster zone despite the danger of aftershocks.
\nOn the other hand, he began to reflect:<\/p>\n

What is love?<\/strong>
\nBeyond bringing the gospel, should we not also consider people\u2019s practical needs?
\nShould we not see our responsibility where their needs are greatest?<\/p>\n

Just like our Lord \u2014
\nHe taught in the temple,
\nbut He also traveled through towns and villages healing the sick, casting out demons, and feeding the hungry with five loaves and two fish.<\/p>\n

How do the Great Commission and the Great Commandment come together?
\nHow do we proclaim the gospel while living out \u201clove God and love your neighbor as yourself\u201d?<\/p>\n

This experience shaped why his family is now serving in impoverished Senegal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Word became flesh\u201d is a mystery \u2014
\nand the answer is simply to do as He did.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another brother shared today that his coming to Africa was itself a miracle \u2014 God\u2019s clear calling versus his own hesitation.
\nHe said if he didn\u2019t come, he feared God would discipline him.
\nI told him, \u201cNot discipline \u2014 but you would miss the blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone knows the good they ought to do and doesn\u2019t do it, it is sin for them.\u201d
